A temporary medical centre could soon be opened in Gorleston as the first step towards a new permanent surgery to replace cramped facilities.
NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney has submitted plans to Great Yarmouth Borough Council to build the two-storey temporary modular building in Shrublands Park in Magdalen Way to replace the Gorleston Medical Centre in Stuart Close.
The surgery will house a doctors' practice and community services such as physiotherapy and speech and language therapy, providing for people in Gorleston.
If the borough council gives approval in May, work will begin on planning a permanent medical centre on the same site.
The NHS Trust's board is due to meet on Wednesday to decide whether to approve the scheme in principle, subject to NHS capital and revenue funding.
Partners at the medical centre have been looking for new premises since a business case for the new building was presented to Yarmouth Primary Care Trust three years ago.
Beginning in March last year, the surgery collected 600 signatures in just three months in a campaign to get funding for a new surgery.
