THE fundraising arm of England's largest parish church has received a boost by securing help from five members of Great Yarmouth's business and professional community in its efforts to obtain funding for its ongoing work in maintaining the structure and fabric of the historic building.

Dating back to Norman times, Saint Nicholas' Church was rebuilt after being damaged by incendiary bombs in the second world war and has recently had its magnificent tower clock restored and recommissioned.

Nick Pownall, who chairs the Saint Nicholas' Parish Church Preservation Trust sub-committee responsible for the fundraising said: “I am delighted the charity has secured the services of five dedicated local people.

“All of them have made valuable contributions to the well-being of the town.”

The new members are Valerie Campbell, Albert Jones, Robert Price, Colin Smith and Hugh Sturzaker.

The trust would like to hear from any business, organisation or individual who would like to help or make a contribution to the preservation of the church.
