PUPILS from Flegg High School, in Martham, put their spelling skills to the test and came out with top marks, winning a local heat in a national competition.

The three-pupil team, plus a reserve, went against five other teams from Norfolk schools to win the local heat of The Times Spelling Bee competition, at Norwich Odeon.

The Flegg team were Nathan Jones, Ashlea Brooks, Joseph Isaacs and Jack Salter, all aged 12.

Claire Galeski, a teacher at Flegg High, said: “I'm thrilled and very proud. They've all done very well.”

Joseph said: “It was enjoyable, but we were nervous, and I'm happy that we progressed to the semi-finals.”

The team will now go through to the semi-finals in May and if successful there, they will go on to the grand final in London in June.
