POLICE in the rural Flegg villages will be targeting speeding drivers, and also raising awareness of road safety to address community concerns.

Those living in the area covered by the Rural Flegg Villages Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) raised the issued as a concern at the recent priority meeting held on Wednesday, June 9, and the issue has now been made a priority for the team.

Members of the Safer Neighbourhood Action Panel (SNAP) meeting said they felt speeding on rural country roads was a problem and the team will now aim to increase awareness over the dangers of speeding and target drivers who break the law.

During the meeting members were updated work carried out on the teams' previous priorities of anti-social behaviour in Martham, oil and diesel thefts and marine thefts from boats and boatyards.

High visibility patrols have been carried out around the village and several youths have been spoken to and dealt with for minor offences.

There has been a reduction in oil and diesel thefts in the area, something believed to be the result of residents and businesses being more vigilant and aware of crime prevention advice.

The team has worked in partnership with officers from Norfolk Constabulary's Broadsbeat team offering crime prevention advice to boat owners.

During the priority period three suspects have been arrested for the theft of two boats from Martham Boat Dyke and property has been recovered. Enquiries are ongoing and the suspects are on police bail.

It has also been decided that the team should continue with its priority work on marine boat thefts and target speeding on rural roads, raising awareness in road safety.

The next priority setting meeting will be held on September 8 at Martham Sports and Social Club, Playing Field Lane, Martham, at 7pm.
