SHOPPERS in Great Yarmouth can pick up some free advice on flooding when they visit the town centre on Wednesday .

The multi-agency event will see representatives from Yarmouth Borough Council, Anglian Water and the Environment Agency hand out advice on how to protect homes and businesses from flooding.

Emergency planning manager at the borough council, Jan Davis, said: “People in the borough have experienced at first hand how devastating it is to find their home or businesses in a sea of dirty water,

“There isn't only the loss of furniture, stock or possessions there is sometimes the risk that a building is left uninhabitable for many weeks after the water has receded.

“There are steps that can be taken to minimise risk and the advice will be on hand from a range of experts. The Environment Agency, for example, not only has information regarding potential flood sites; it also has a wealth of experience in tips to deal with flooding.”

The free event is from 10am to 4pm in the Market Place.

To contact the Environment Agency call 0845 988 1188. Flooding advice can also be found at the borough council's website on www.great-yarmouth.gov.uk/flooding_fqs.htm.
