An international food festival is to be used as a way of enticing residents of a Great Yarmouth estate to have a chance on shaping their community.

The Feast of Nations event will be held at Great Yarmouth Library on Saturday, July 14 for people living on the Middlegate Estate.

As people enjoy food from more than ten countries between noon and 3pm, people will be invited to share their thoughts and aspirations about their neighbourhood as part of a potential regeneration project to help improve the area and the homes and residents’ lives.

Cuisine from Portugal, Lithuania, Poland and Latvia will be amongst the dishes on offer at the event from Books & Beans Café, courtesy of Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

The festival is the fourth of sixth public consultation events.

The project aims to build on the strengths of Middlegate and its community with residents raising issues such as ways to improve housing, strengthen public resources and how to invest in and support community groups.

Andy Grant, chairman of the borough council housing and neighbourhoods committee, said: “It is essential that people living in Middlegate are at the centre of all the ideas and deliberations surrounding the regeneration of their community.

“We’ve had fantastic participation so far – all of which is informing the initial concepts to be considered with the community at co-design workshops later this year.”

“We’ve had great feedback on what matters to residents with community resources such as the library valued highly. We would encourage everyone in Middlegate who is interested in the consultation to come along, have their say and join in the feast of nations.”

“Middlegate’s key strength is its residents who have demonstrated their commitment to their community through participation in these events.

Updates on the consultation and its progress will be posted regularly on the Comeunity Facebook page.
