A former museum in a prime spot on Great Yarmouth seafront has been sold subject to contract.

Yesterday's World shut down last year and its unique contents, ranging from the full-sized Victorian carousel to wax works of Winston Churchill and Royal family members, were auctioned off piece by piece.

Now, the Yarmouth estate agent tasked with selling the empty building on Marine Parade has confirmed that an offer has been made.

Daniel Bycroft, director at Charles Bycroft Estate Agent, said: 'It has sold, subject to contract. We can't say anything more at the moment because the deal is still going through.'

Yesterday's World was a staple on the Golden Mile for several years, trading on a fondness for curiosities and nostalgia. Inside were old-fashioned street scenes, preserved shops, a myriad of time-warp artefacts as well as a themed tea room.

The bygone treasure trove was once part of owner Peter Bull's personal collection.

But after the closure, which was confirmed last November, hundreds of individual pieces were put up for sale through Chippenham Auction Rooms in Wiltshire, including the museum's well-known working carousel, wax figures created for Madame Tussauds in London, a taxidermy polar bear, and items owned by Queen Victoria.

The 8ft (2,4m) tall stuffed polar bear eventually sold for £5,000, below the estimate of £7,000 to £10,000.

Six people lost their jobs with the closure of Yesterday's World.

Before the museum opened in 2007, the site was an empty amusement arcade.
