MORE than £7,000 was raised for Palliative Care East appeal when the Ocean Room held a 1940s evening earlier this month.

It was attended by more than 250 people including mayor and mayoress Paul and Lisa Garrod.

Most people got into the party spirit wearing 1940s-style costumes. The money raised included a £3,500 donation from the Raynscourt Hotel, made up of proceeds from raffles, and a £1,000 donation from the Ocean Room.

Freemasons from St Andrew's Lodge have also donated £1,000 to the appeal.

More than £1,400 was raised at a Valentine's charity night held at the Wherry Hotel in Oulton Broad. Organised by local band 50p a Go, the night included a raffle, auction and performances from local bands.

The money pot for the Palliative Care East appeal now stands at £360,000. The aim is to raise £1.5m to build a centre in the grounds of the James Paget University Hospital.

Forthcoming fundraising events include Potters annual charity show with Potters Theatre Company on Sunday; a sponsored dog walk on Gorleston seafront on March 24; Ladies Day at Chadds Department Store in Lowestoft on April 8 and the Mayor's Ball on April 19.
