A CRACKDOWN on anti-social behaviour in Gorleston resulted in four arrests on Friday night.

Officers from the Gorleston Safer Neighbourhood Team teamed up with specials and borough council neighbourhood wardens to tackle anti-social behaviour and criminal damage in the town following a small increase in incidents recently.

Two 17-year-old boys were arrested for disorderly conduct in the Lower Esplande area and received an £80 fine.

A 14-year-old girl was arrested for breaching a curfew.

Plain clothes officers arrested on man for a drugs offence. Mitch Massen, 24 of Bells Marsh Road, Gorleston, was charged with possession of cannabis and was bailed to appear at Great Yarmouth Magistrates Court on Tuesday, May 13.

Another 30-year-old man was given a street caution for drugs offences.

Sgt Lewis Craske, who led the operation, said: “This operation shows that we will not tolerate anti-social behaviour in Gorleston and we will continue to target problem areas over the coming weeks.

“Parents should be aware of where their children are and what they are doing or they could risk picking them up from their local police station after a night in the cells.”

Last week four people were charged with criminal damage offences following another operation in the town.

All were bailed to appear before Yarmouth Magistrates on Thursday and each were given strict curfews banning them from being out at night.

Inspector Paul McCarthy said the multi team operation had enabled the force to crackdown on a “small” problem before it escalated.

He said: “Historically Friday nights have been a problem for us and in a bid to combat damage and deal with the anti-social behaviour we had an operation. As a result of our presence no incidents of criminal damage were recorded on Friday night. These operations show we will not accept that sort of behaviour.”

Insp McCarthy added that strict curfews put on youngsters also acted as a warning to their friends.
