Villagers in a Broadland village will be going that extra four miles for charity on Sunday to raise funds for a centre that helps families of seriously ill children.

More than 100 people of all ages are expected to run or walk their way around Ludham, in support of Acorn House by Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridgeshire.

Acorn House is close to the hearts of many villagers as the family of Ludham youngster Issy Sale stayed there free when she was in intensive care in Addenbrooke's following a car accident in Horning in 2005.

This year Issy, who is wheelchair bound, and her family along with Helen Shorten, have organised the annual Ludham Fun Run as a thank you to Acorn House, which is run by the Sick Children's Trust.

And as people run and ramble around the village Issy will be on to hand out certificates to any children taking part and has also made cakes to sell to spectators.

She will also be cheering on her brother Edward, 16, as he races around Ludham in the 28th annual event.

Issy parents' Jennie and Colin spent a year in Acorn House as their daughter was in intensive care for serious neck injuries.

Describing how staying close to her daughter helped them, Mrs Sale, 45, said: “Acorn House wonderful - it is like a home from home.”

People are asked to make a donation of 2 to take part in the Ludham Fun Run and can register at 10am on Sunday at the Ludham garage by Catfield Road at 10am. Walkers will set off just after 10am with runners starting their four mile run at 10.30am.

Ludham's St Catherine's Church will also be open from tomorrow to Monday as it hosts an arts and crafts show, children's activities and displays some of its art work, including a Millennium textile map. It will be open tomorrow and Monday from 10am to 5pm and 11am to 5pm on Sunday.

Then on Sunday the 2.5 acres of gardens at the Mowle in Staithe Road will be open from 2pm to 5pm in aid of the Norfolk Wildlife Trust.
