EMBRACE, a charity event which aims to raise thousands of pounds for Palliative Care East, is speedily building up support to become one of the largest festival events in the borough this year.

Organisers of the James Paget Univer-sity Hospital fete announced this week that for the first time in the event's 17-year history it will be moving location.

The fete, organised by Jill Jacobs and David Hughes for the last seven years, will be held simultaneously with Embrace at Great Yarmouth Racecourse on Sunday, August 9.

The event will offer a mixture of sporting events, music and comedy, with a three-mile fun run open to everyone. Embrace aims to get people active while raising money for the 1.5m appeal and is the brainchild of BWell Health Club director Spencer McCormack. He said: “Now the hospital fete is on board and Jill and David are offering their expertise and contacts to the organisation of this event, it's set to be a great day for all the family.”

Starting on April 30 and on the last Thursday of each month until July, BWell instructors will be at Gorleston clifftop offering advice and support to wannabe-participants who want to get fit.

And the latest club to get involved is the North Sea Rollers where skater Glen Wicks and his team will give people the chance to get their skates on.

Meanwhile, Lowestoft couple Ivan and Margaret Grimble, pictured, raised 860 for the appeal through donations for a Christmas lights display. They have been decorating their Gunton home for the last 10 years and this year decided to raise money in memory of Ivan Batchelor and Anne Grimble.

And an evening of nostalgia with Colin Tooke and John Farmer held at St Paul's Church Hall on Saturday raised 1,532.67 for Palliative Care East.

Forthcoming events include Yarmouth Lions Club race night, Cliff Hotel, Gorleston, on February 20; Yarmouth Rotary's annual charity quiz, Town Hall, February 20; Gorleston clifftop sponsored dog walk, April 19; BBC Radio Norfolk's comedy quiz, Should the team Think, Gorleston Pavilion, April 24; and the Yarmouth Rotary Club's charity fun walk at Somerleyton on May 17.
