I SAY, I SAY. This year's Great Yarmouth Beer and Cider is set to be a barrel of laughs with a dedicated comedy evening.

The opening night of the four-day festival on Thursday, May 21 will feature stand up routines from members of the acclaimed Salt Box Comedy Club.

It will add to the range of top notch entertainment at the festival which will once again include a number of music sessions.

Organised by Yarmouth's award winning Blackfriars Brewery, the festival will feature a range of more than 100 locally produced ales and ciders.

Founded by Dan McKee, Salt Box has proved a popular addition to the Norwich comedy circuit in the last few years.

Blackfriars owner Bill Russell said: “I am delighted that Salt Box Comedy Club has agreed to take part in the festival.

“Having a comedy evening will match the atmosphere at the beer festival as everybody likes to have a laugh when they are out drinking. Beer and jokes really are the perfect combination.

“People want more than just to be standing there drinking and this gives them something to enjoy along with an excellent selection of locally produced beers and ciders.”

Held at the town's historic Priory Centre, the festival is a showcase for the best of the region's small, independent beer and cider producers.

Brewing began this week of the super strength Audit Ale, which at 8pc, will be one of the more potent brews on tap at the festival, held over the Whitsun bank holiday weekend.

It is one of a range of Blackfriars ales on tap at the festival including older favourites like Yarmouth Bitter and White Angel.
