People who fancy trying out Great Yarmouth’s festive ice rink can take advantage of special offers courtesy of the borough council.

The open-air rink will be in the Market Square from Friday, November 24 to Tuesday, January 2 to help drum up town centre footfall over the seasonal period.

Ticket prices for a 45-minute session and ice skate hire are £10 per adult, £7.50 per child aged four to 16, and £30 for a family ticket (two adults and two children, or one adult and three children).

Tickets will soon go on sale.

To enable residents of the borough to go on the ice for less, a special discount has been introduced for those with a Resident Advantage Card.

It will allow adult cardholders to save £1 on their tickets, Mondays to Fridays before 3pm, until Tuesday, December 19.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is also introducing a Skate Yarmouth Loyalty Card, enabling anyone who skates four times to have a fifth session completely free-of-charge.

Loyalty cards will be available from the skate exchange when the rink opens.

And in a bid to get more children to don ice skates the council is offering schools in the borough the opportunity to take pupils for a PE session on the ice at a reduced rate of £4 per child.

Additional adult helpers over the required minimum ratio will be charged £5.

Barry Coleman, chairman of the council’s economic development committee, said: “The ice rink is part of the wider Town Centre Initiative to boost the town centre and aims to offer an additional magical reason for people to choose to shop here for Christmas.

“The ice rink two years ago was hugely popular, with some people going on the ice multiple times. These offers, in addition to the deals on parking, will incentivise even more people to visit the town centre, to go on the ice, and visit the shops.”

Festive shoppers will also benefit from free all-day parking every Sunday in most town centre car parks from November 26 to December 30.
