The borough has beaten five other areas of Norfolk by promoting opportunities and making facilities readily available so people can regularly participate in sport, or other physical activities.
Yarmouth's rating of 20.4pc in the Active People Survey beats the results of two years earlier when it scored 17.3pc. This rise of more than 3pc was only bettered by South Norfolk with 4.1pc.
The borough council's sport and leisure manager Marie Hartley said: “This is excellent news. The GY Sports Partnership has worked hard to create more opportunities for a wide spectrum of people throughout the borough to get active. The recent publication of the free Great Yarmouth Borough Sport and Physical Activity Guide shows a choice of activities on offer.”
A copy of the guide can be obtained from the Marina Centre or by calling community sports co-ordinator Marten Payne on 07766 205746.
