A day of golf and trick shot fun has boosted a major charity appeal by £10,000.
Seventy-two players took part in a money-raising competition for Great Yarmouth’s Centre 81. The event was organised by charity supporter Mark Everard, through his building company Ovamill, who raised £8,000 for the cause in his year as captain of Gorleston Golf Club, helped by a similar golf charity day.
Mr Everard said: “It is a fantastic result thanks to all the teams who turned out and supported the raffles and auction.”
The charity is close to his heart because he is friends with member Joseph Smith and the sum was boosted by a £1,000 donation from Barclays bank through its regional giving fund.
Centre 81 has recently launched a vision to rebuild its Tar Works Road site, where it runs a skills and activities centre for people with disabilities, and a community transport minibus fleet.
Before the players teed off, they – and members from Centre 81 – were entertained by a trick shot show from former European Tour professional David Edwards.
Winners of the day’s sport were Highfield Engineering from Beccles, with a team comprising Paul Highfield, Rob Woodcock, Shaun Winney and Lee Humphries.
