A GORLESTON teenager has been sentenced to more than two years in a young offenders’ institution for carrying out a string of assaults and leaving one of his victims with serious injuries.

Jordan Howarth, 19, of Magdalen Way, appeared at Norwich Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday, January 6, where he pleaded guilty to two charges of affray on September 14, 2010, and November 3, 2009, and inflicting grievous bodily harm on June 5, 2010.

Howarth was at a barbeque on Baliol Road on June 5 when he was involved in an argument with another man.

A 35-year-old woman intervened and was punched in the face by Howarth and suffered and severely broken cheekbone and hairline fracture to the skull, which required surgery.

And on September 14 Mr Howarth was one of a group of youngsters who set on a 34-year-old man while he was walking along Church Lane. The victim was hit several times causing cuts and swelling to his head which required hospital treatment.

Finally, on November 3, 2009, Howarth and other males assaulted an 18-year-old man on Trafalgar Road East in Gorleston leaving the victim with cuts and bruises.He was sentenced to a total of 30 months detention in a young offenders’ institution.

Insp Richard Graveling, from the Gorleston Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “This type of violent behaviour will not be tolerated and we will take tough action against people who commit such offences.

“This thuggish behaviour has no place in our community. I hope the sentence acts as a warning to others.”
