POLITICIANS visited Gorleston Police Station last week to look at the successful CCTV operation on the High Street.
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling and Brandon Lewis, the Tory's Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Great Yarmouth also discussed the positive effects the community football project Kickz is having on youth crime in Yarmouth.
Mr Grayling heard how crime had fallen by a substantial amount since the Gorleston cameras have been in operation. And one of the volunteers told how they had worked with the police and local shops, and recently the police were able to make an arrest.
Supt Jim Smerdon and his police officers later explained how the football project Kickz, s run in conjunction with Norwich City FC has helped reduce crime in the Southtown and Cobholm area by up to 25pc since it started. There are now over 100 young people in the area involved in the scheme, which runs three nights a week.
