The East Coast Hospice fundraising dip was due to be held on New Year’s Day but was postponed out of respect to the 21-year-old’s family.

The dip will now take place on Sunday, February 25 from 10.30am at the beach behind the Pier Hotel.

The Pier Hotel is sponsoring the event and is offering warm refreshments to all entrants after the event.

A spokesman for East Coast Hospice said: “The event was postponed on New Year’s Day in respect to missing Sophie Smith when coastal searches were in progress at the time.

“The charity is calling on local residents to be brave and bold and dip in in support of raising essential funds for the hospice appeal.”

To sign up to the charity dip you need to be aged at least 16.
