THEY share a life together and now a devoted couple are celebrating shedding more than six stone between them.

Gorleston pensioners Tony and Kathy Jennings are proving that age is no barrier to success, matching each other pound for pound since starting to lose weight just over a year ago.

Both husband and wife decided they needed to slim down after enjoying the good life in Spain for a few years.

Joining their local Weightwatchers club, Tony, 75, and Kathy, 73, have successfully fought the flab losing three stone each.

The couple are enjoying a new lease of life eating healthily and feeling full of energy.

Tony's weight loss has been all the more impressive as he has had restricted movement since suffering a stroke in 2001.

He said: “I have to use a mobility scooter and am not able to exercise in the way I would like.

“It is much more comfortable walking for me now, the only thing I miss eating is cheese but losing the weight has made my life easier. I didn't imagine we would be as successful this, but being weighed once a week has been a motivation.

“Husbands and wives joining slimming clubs together is not as common as it should be, we have certainly been a great support to each other.”

A retired Royal Navy chief artificer and marine surveyor, Tony has reached his target weight of just under 13st. Kathy now tips the scales at 10st 2lb and is aiming to maintain her current weight.

She said: “We both still eat very well but try to avoid very fattening things and I enjoy cereal bars now instead of chocolate.

“I didn't think Tony would come along to the slimming club and it surprised me that he stuck to it so well.

“Our daughter Hazel is over the moon at what we have achieved and is starting to lose weight too.”

“Joining Weightwatchers was invaluable, we made a lot of friends who were very supportive. We have tried to diet before but always slipped by the wayside.

“We spent some time in Spain enjoying the lifestyle eating out and drinking a lot of reasonably priced wine and came back with expanded waistlines.”

Tony met Edinburgh lass Kathy when he was based in Scotland in the 1950s and the couple have been married 54 years.

They have two daughters and two grown up grandchildren and lived in Lowestoft before moving to Spain, and then to Gorleston a couple of years ago.
