A GORLESTON mum is set to show star quality when she takes part in a new talent show which will be broadcast this weekend.

Toni Warne will be singing for success on BBC’s The Voice UK tomorrow night, a show which sees singers undergo a blind audition where four mentors cannot see the acts.

After they perform, if the coaches are interested they turn their chair to face the act.

If more than one turns around then the act can choose who they would like to mentor them.

The 34-year-old, who has been singing since she was a child and performing since she was 18, has had alopecia since she was seven years old and hopes to use the platform to inspire others with the condition.

“My hair would come out in patches and I would cover it up. Throughout my teens I would lose patches but it would always grow back. When I was 22 it all went.

“Initially it was a relief. I went through a stage where things were tough for or five years ago but it’s not an issue now.

“I’m not a sufferer. I’m not a victim. This is who I am.

“I hope my exposure will help people who have alopecia. Everyone has things that they are not comfortable with.”

Miss Warne, who works as a customer adviser in a bank said she first knew about the programme after seeing the American version on Youtube.

The panel of coaches is made up of The Script frontman Danny O’Donoghue, Back Eyed peas founder will.I.am, chart topping singer/songwriter Jessie J and music legend Sir Tom Jones.

Miss Warne, who lives in Jenner Road with her partner of 12 years Jason Keyte and their two children Thomas, three and Lily, 18 months, said The Voice appealed to her because it focused solely on the talent.

“I thought the show sounded like it was perfect for me. I auditioned in London at the end of last year. It was amazing, terrifying and brilliant all at the same time. It was everything you imagine it to be.”

Although she could not reveal what song she performed or if she is through to the next round, she said that the day was positive.

“It was one of the greatest moments of my life,” she said.

“After the audition I was relieved that it was over but it was the best feeling in the world - I had taken myself out of my comfort zone. It’s so easy to do what you do and keep on doing it and keep it within that circle.”

The Voice will be on BBC1 tomorrow at 7pm.
