A GROUP should be set up to look at the parking problems that face certain parts Gorleston, it has been suggested.

The idea came after long-lasting problems with parking in areas like the Magdalen Estate, and a recent report from the police highlighting the difficulty in enforcing restrictions.

Among the issues highlighted was the old design of the Magdalen estate, which did not allow for every house to have a car and had narrow roads that resulted in mass parking on grass verges.

Cllr Brian Walker suggested the idea at the Gorleston Scrutiny Committee on Wednesday, as he thought the attempts to increase enforcement could end up worsening the problem.

He said: “You could end up with double yellow lines everywhere. The people who live there have got to park. We should try and organise a working party to look at this problem in some depth.”

Among the ideas for improving the situation, it was suggested more hard grass verges be installed and more lay-bys created.
