Safer neighbourhood officers in Gorleston took the unusual step of vox-popping members of the local community to help decide forthcoming policing priorities for the area.

In the week before its latest regular Key Individual Network (KIN) meeting, the Gorleston Safer Neighbourhood Team filmed a number of shoppers in the town's high street and asked them what they felt local policing priorities should be.

The vox pops were included at the meeting, which brings a cross-section of the community together to decide forthcoming priorities. These were subsequently agreed as:

Parking in Gorleston High Street

Anti-social behaviour in Trafalgar Road West

Tackling youths causing damage around Bells Marsh Road area.

Gorleston Inspector Paul McCarthy said: “These are the issues my team will concentrate on over the forthcoming weeks, alongside every day calls.

“These are the issues the local community feels need tackling and to assist us in this, I would urge parents to know where their children are, to ensure they are not causing problems to other residents and for those using the High Street to abide by parking regulations or expect to receive a fix penalty ticket.”
