The Marks & Spencer Food to Go will open on Wednesday, September 12 and hospital bosses say it will offer visitors, patients and hospital staff quality and innovative food and drink synonymous with the brand.

It will also create 25 jobs as the Paget’s Cafe is replaced.

The re-vamping of the foyer has seen two charities close their shops in the foyer - the Royal Voluntary Service and the James Paget University Hospital League of Friends.

The new store will see freshly baked filled baguettes made on site and a large array of cold on-the-go products and a huge range of salads will be on offer.

A “hot fridge” concept will allow customers to quickly pick up hot food on the move and visitors to the new outlet will also enjoy barista served coffee.

The M&S Food to Gos store will also include a 70-seater café and recruitment is underway to find candidates for 25 roles in bakery, customer service, finance, operations and as baristas.

Nichola Hicks, head of facilities management at the hospital, said: “This is an exciting development which brings benefits for our patients, staff and visitors.

“The new Marks and Spencer Food to Go store will replace Paget’s Café and its seating area, which has served people well for more than a decade, but is cramped and now in need of refurbishment.

“The changes will give greater choice as our newly-refurbished Aubergine Restaurant – formerly just for staff – is now open to all, providing a range of hot, freshly-cooked meals throughout the day prepared by our in-house catering team.”

The store is in partnership with Compass Group UK and Ireland, the country’s largest food service company.

Andy Jones, managing director of Healthcare Retail at Compass Group UK and Ireland said: “We have worked closely with the hospital to bring a new, innovative food and drink offer to the hospital.

“Quality food service is incredibly important for those visiting or working here and that is why we brought in the M&S, a brand much loved for its retail offering.”
