SHE may not be instantly recognised walking down the street, but Gorleston woman Nicola Jones has built up an impressive CV of appearances on daytime TV game shows.

The 39-year-old, of Quay Ostend, has already racked up appearances on Deal or No Deal, ITV's The Cube and The Colour of Money.

But on Tuesday the brave mother-of-two faced arguably her biggest challenge - the wrath of presenter Anne Robinson when she appeared on BBC quiz The Weakest Link.

She battled through to round five of the show, filmed in June, before bowing out three rounds short of the final after getting three general knowledge questions wrong.

Nine contestants take part in the Weakest Link where they can bank money into a communal pot after giving a right answer, but lose any banked cash if they give a wrong answer. At the end of each round, contestants get to vote off one contestant.

Mrs Jones said: “I was very impressed with how well I did. All I wanted to do was get past round one, but I was really impressed with myself to get that far. At the end of the day, only one person out of nine would go on to win it so I was very happy.”

She added: “I was nervous at first, but once I started playing I forgot about it. All my friends thought I did really well.”

The mystery shopper, mum to Jessica, seven, and Lauren, five, said her regular TV appearances stemmed from an enjoyment of appearing on the box, but she has had applications rejected, including one to appear on Channel 5 show Wordplay.

“I like the thrill of being on television. Even though it can be nerve-wracking, the thrill is just fantastic,” she said.

But she was not afraid of disciplinarian Anne, who has established a reputation for her acid tongue lashings of contestants.

“She did not come to see any of the contestants before filming, unlike other presenters, and did not seem particularly friendly, but she did not ridicule me too much. I think her bark's worse than her bite,” Mrs Jones added.
