A great great grandmother has taken the plunge into the North Sea off Gorleston in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Morrene Allen, 75 and known as Tammy, raised £500 from her solo seven minute dip into the chilly sea in front of family members.

Mrs Allen, who worked for 35 years at the James Paget University Hospital special care baby unit and maternity unit, said it was the first time she had swam off Gorleston.

She said: “It was very chilly, I am proud of myself for doing it. It took three hours to warm up afterwards.”

When asked why she had done it, Mrs Allen, from Pier Plain in Gorleston, said: “I think there are so many different kinds of cancer and charities need funds to see what they can do about it.”
