The TS Lord Nelson was one of several vessels that were left stranded after the Haven Bridge malfunctioned on Thursday, June 21.

On Monday night as part of repair works the bridge was finally lifted again, leading to the safe passage of the TS Lord Nelson, a former Norwich Sea Cadets naval base.

The distinctive grey vessel is now berthed at Alicat Workboats in Yarmouth.

She is being worked on as part of plan by her new owner Cate Meadows to convert it into a community cafe on the River Deben at Woodbridge, near Ipswich.

She said while her boat had to be moored at Breydon Water due to not being able to pass under the bridge it was costing her up to £3,000 a day.

However she added while it had still cost her personally, Norfolk County Council, which is responsible for the bridge, had agreed to pay her contractors fees of about £20,000.

She said it was a “relief” that her stranded ordeal was finally over and she hoped to head out to Woodbridge in about seven days’ time.

The council had planned for a further four bridge lifts so repair work could be carried out but it is not known as yet if that number will be reduced or are needed at all.

The council also says it is looking at future improvements for the crossing which is now over 90 years old and has already commissioned reports to look at the best long-term solutions and possible funding sources.
