A man is to appear at Norwich Crown Court charged with assaulting a Great Yarmouth-based police officer and breaking his fingers.

David Dunbar was arrested on January 9 with the police officer said to have been injured during his arrest.

Dunbar is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault with intention to resist and escaping lawful custody.

He is due to appear at Norwich Crown Court on February 8 after appearing for a short hearing at Norwich Magistrates’ Court.

Dunbar was remanded in custody by magistrates.

Supt Roger Wiltshire, head of Great Yarmouth police, said the injured male officer is due to return to duties in Great Yarmouth next week.

The Norfolk Police Federation, which represents more than 1,500 men and women who provide a policing service to the people of Norfolk, has offered its support and guidance to the injured officer.
