The Great Yarmouth and Gorleston lifeboat crew responded to two call outs during the weekend.

The Seahorse IV was launched twice over the weekend to separate incidents in the same area of water.

On Saturday morning at 8.51am the Seahorse IV, Great Yarmouth and Gorleston’s inshore lifeboat, launched to reports of a broken down yacht in the Breydon water area of Great Yarmouth.

Due to the yacht losing all power it was dangerously drifting in the strong tide.

Once on scene the lifeboat established an alongside tow, and proceeded towards Great Yarmouth Yacht Station.

Over the weekend Great Yarmouth was experiencing high tide, because of the size of the yacht and height of the water, the yacht was put onto the temporary mooring just before Vauxhall Bridge.

The yacht had one person onboard who was safe and well and was organising support for his engine failure.

Then on Sunday at 11.21am the pager sounded again to launch the ILB to another incident, where a four metre vessel ran aground under Vauxhall Bridge. The lifeboat made the decision to try and manoeuvre the vessel due to the location and the risk of it capsizing.

The Broads Authority were also on scene where they had managed to hold the boat’s lines until the lifeboat was on scene. It was decided that the boat would also be moved to the floating pontoon to later be moved by the Broads Authority.

Great Yarmouth and Gorleston lifeboat has now attended 52 shouts this year.
