Great Yarmouth Carnival has been cancelled due to fears over strong winds.
Some 400 people had been set to parade through the streets on Saturday (June 8) but organisers have had to cancel the event.
Hugh Sturzaker, chairman of Great Yarmouth Arts Festival, said the carnival is not going to go ahead "because of the storm coming in".
Organisers are keen to point out, however, that Festa Fiesta, a party on King Street, will still take place.
Mr Sturzaker said it is hoped the parade will go ahead the following Saturday (June 15) but organisers have not yet made a decision.
"We've had months of preparation for this, making all the costumes, but we hope to do it the following Saturday," he said.
"It's a disappointment for everyone, because we had been planning it for a whole year, but we've got to play it safe, because the police advised against it, because if a bit of a building came off and hit someone that would be terrible."
The event, part of the town's ten-day arts festival, was to include groups of people dressed as windmills and others in Caribbean clothing.
It would have started at the Venetian Waterways at 11am before passing up North Drive, Regent Road, through the Market Place and along King Street to St George's Theatre.
Mr Sturzaker said: "We're terribly sorry but we've got to take the advice from the police.
"It would be tragic if anyone was injured due to the gales forecast."
Festa Fiesta, a party on King Street, and the Community Fair, at the library, are still scheduled to take place on Saturday.
Phil Garner, meteorologist at Weatherquest, an independent Norfolk-based forecaster, said tomorrow would be breezy, with winds of 40 to 45 mph in the morning.
He said it would be bright and dry in the afternoon with temperatures of 15C to 16C.
The forecast for Sunday is light winds and dry morning, with one or two showers in the afternoon, and in the afternoon temperatures of 18C.
