An athletics club in Great Yarmouth has been awarded a grant to help establish a ‘game changers’ training programme.
Great Yarmouth District Athletics Club were awarded the grant by England Athletics, which will be used to encourage young people to volunteer and help tackle childhood obesity.
Steve Austin, volunteers coordinator, said: “This is a massive boost for the club and it will have an impact across east Norfolk and north Suffolk.
“We all hear about how childhood obesity, body image and bullying issues can affect children today, and surveys have shown that a higher proportion of young people are currently willing to volunteer in the community than any other age-group in our society.
“We want to mine that rich resource and can offer students and young adults aged 14-25 free vocational job experience-style training in a friendly, fun and dynamic environment.”
