A beggar has been banned from pretending he is ill or injured across the whole of Norfolk.

The ban was handed to Robert Dawson as he appeared at Great Yarmouth Magistrates, where he was given a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order after persistently begging in a public place.

The court heard how Dawson, 34 of Apsley Road, had been seen to beg in a public place on several occasions despite being warned about his conduct.

The provisions set out in his Criminal Behaviour Order state that Dawson must not:

Lie down and feign illness or injury anywhere in Norfolk.

Beg or present to beg for money, cigarettes or any other item in Norfolk.

Contact the emergency services, including non-emergency lines, except when in genuine need of emergency services requiring immediate assessment, action or treatment.

Enter Great Yarmouth town centre and Regent Road between 11am and 3pm every day.

Enter any public telephone kiosk unless reporting a genuine emergency requiring immediate assessment, action or treatment.
