A man is seeking compensation from a discount store to cover vet fees after he was sold out of date dog food.

David Twiddy bought a can of tinned dog food from Poundstretcher in Fuller’s Hill, Great Yarmouth, on Saturday, June 30.

But after feeding his 12-year-old Jack Russell, Zac Wussell, the food on Monday, July 2, he became ill.

It was only then that Mr Twiddy realised the tin was dated March of this year.

Mr Twiddy took Zac Wussell to the vets the next day where he was treated for suspected enteritis and prescribed antibiotics.

Mr Twiddy has now asked that the store reimburse him the cost of the dog food, plus his veterinary costs, which totals around £60.

As of this morning, the store still had four tins of the out of date Butcher’s Tender Cuts with Beef on their shelves.

Poundstretcher has been contacted for comment.
