A woman whose dogs fouled on the dunes at Great Yarmouth has been left with a £230 court bill following a prosecution by Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

One of the council’s environmental rangers spotted Julie Lenton-Baker failing to clear up after her dogs had fouled on North Denes near the handrail on the pedestrian slope.

Lenton-Baker, 54, of Marine Parade, pleaded guilty by post at Great Yarmouth Magistrates’ Court. She was fined a total of £100 and told to pay £100 costs plus a £30 victim surcharge.

Carl Smith, chairman of the council’s environment committee, said: “Our Rangers rely on valuable tip-offs from the public to help secure prosecutions for environmental offences. In this case, the Ranger timed his visit to this location following reports from residents.

“We work hard to keep our beaches clean for everyone and we would like to thank the vast majority of dog owners who always pick up their dog’s mess, bag it and bin it. While dog-fouling happens across the UK, valuable public intelligence ensures that we, in Great Yarmouth, are able to work proactively to tackle environmental pollution in all its forms.”

Anyone who witnesses an environmental crime in the borough or has information that may help to identify an offender should contact the environmental rangers and provide as much information as possible, such as the location and time of the offence, description of the offender(s) and dog, and the registration number of any vehicle involved. The quickest way to report is to download the Report IT GY App, or you can call 01493 846478.
