A planning bid to demolish part of a Great Yarmouth seafront building and build homes in its place has been approved by Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

The steel framed building is at the rear of 34 Marine Parade and overlooks Apsley Road and had been part of the Yesterday’s World attraction.

On Wednesday the council’s development control committee approved a bid by a Mr Mavroudis to knock down the building and turn into two blocks of flats, with each block having five flats.

There would be parking as well.

A planning report discussed by the committee said: “The proposed layout is considered to be acceptable with all flats being considered a reasonable size and layout.”

Yesterday’s World closed in November 2014, with the loss of six jobs.

The seafront museum was described as “one of the best social history museums in the UK” and held more than 150,000 nostalgia exhibits.
