A former headteacher of a Great Yarmouth school has died at the age of 88.

Gordon Mason died on Sunday.

He had been the headteacher of Greenacre school and then deputy at Great Yarmouth High School.

He was a father of three and one of his grandchildren is Adam Mason, manager at Great Yarmouth Football Club.

He said as well as being a respected headteacher, his grandfather was also well known for playing sport, such as football, badminton and squash.

He said: “He had good moral values and was just a likable character. A lot of people had a lot of respect for him.”

Mr Mason also added his grandfather was a disciplinarian and was “old school” and had been at Swaffham Secondary Modern School.

In a Tweet the Bloaters manager said: “My grandad Gordon Mason has passed away.

“A much respected sportsman and headteacher of Greenacre school for many years. True gentleman.”
