A retail unit in a prime location overlooking Great Yarmouth’s historic market is to go under the hammer at a fraction of its original price.

The former Hughes Electrical at 32-33 Market Place was originally placed on the market for around £400,000 when the store moved to a larger premises.

Now, love could well be in the air for potential buyers on Valentine’s Day, when the unit goes up for auction with a guide price of £175,000 - more than half the original figure.

The 4,058sq/ft unit comes with three storeys along with a basement and attic space.

Bryan Baxter, auctioneer at Auction House East Anglia said: “The company want it to be moved on and have therefore agreed to a much lower guide price than it was originally marketed at.

“It is a great opportunity to be in the very heart of the town and we are hoping for some very competitive bidding.”

The auction is to be held at Dunston Hall at 11am on February 14.
