People are advised to get their skates on from Friday as tickets go on sale that day for Great Yarmouth’s town centre ice rink.

The open-air rink, organised by Great Yarmouth Borough Council, will run between Friday, November 24 and Tuesday, January 2.

Organisers says tickets are expected to go fast for certain days, such as the Christmas Fayre from November 24 to 26, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day, so people are advised to book early at www.great-yarmouth.co.uk/SkateYarmouth

The website also offers further details of festive activities to support town centre footfall and trade this Christmas.

Promoted jointly with Great Yarmouth Town Centre Partnership under the slogan Skate Yarmouth, the festive offer is part of the Town Centre Initiative, the council’s additional year-round work to enhance the town centre as a destination where more people choose to live, work, invest and spend their leisure time and money.

Ticket prices for a 45-minute session and ice skate hire are: £10 per adult, £7.50 per child aged four to 16, and £30 for a family ticket (two adults and two children, or one adult and three children).

The rink will open for the first time from noon on Friday, November 24 and will open late that evening for the first day of the Christmas Fayre and Christmas lights switch-on, with entertainment from 6pm and fireworks at 7pm.

Barry Coleman, chairman of the council’s economic development committee, said: “Like me, many hundreds of people will be really excited to hear that rink tickets are now available, heralding the start of the festive period.

While there will be plenty of opportunities to go on the ice, I urge you to get your skates on and book in advance if you want a specific session.

Visit www.great-yarmouth.co.uk/SkateYarmouth to buy tickets, see the rink’s confirmed opening times, and discover more about Skate Yarmouth. Tickets will also be available from the on-site ticket office during the rink’s opening hours.

A special discount has been introduced for those with a Resident Advantage Card, allowing all adult cardholders to save £1 on the ticket price, Mondays to Fridays before 3pm, until Tuesday, December 19. All residents can order a card at www.great-yarmouth.gov.uk

In addition, the council is introducing a Skate Yarmouth Loyalty Card, enabling anyone who skates four times to have a fifth session completely free-of-charge. Loyalty cards will be available from the skate exchange when the rink opens. Furthermore, all local schools have been offered the special opportunity to take their students for a PE session on the ice at a reduced rate.
