A driver has apologised after getting behind the wheel after taking illegal drugs.

Luke Scott George, of Coronation Road, Great Yarmouth, was stopped by police on June 24 after concerns about the manner of his driving when a roadside test found benzoylecgonine and MDMA in his system.

The incident occurred at 7.30pm on Church Lane, Gorleston, with George pleading guilty to two counts of driving over the legal drug limit in his Vauxhall Astra.

Appearing at Great Yarmouth Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, George said: “I just want to say sorry. I have tried sorting myself out since this.

“I regularly pass drug tests with the probation service and I am now looking for a job in the building industry.”

The 23-year-old was banned from driving for 12 months, with magistrates fining him £80 and ordering him to pay a victim surcharge of £30. No order was made for court costs.
