More than 50 Christmas trees are to take over Great Yarmouth Minster in a seasonal festival for all the family to enjoy.

On Friday the Minster will be hosting a Christmas tree festival until December 17.

The festival is organised by Ernie Childs, a trustee of the Great Yarmouth Preservation Trust, and his wife Karen and has seen schools and groups design their own trees.

As families explore the various trees children can take part in a hunt the snowmen competition, with the lucky winner wining a tickets to see the Christmas show at the Hippodrome.

Adults can also join in the fun by taking part in a celebrity Santa picture trail.

Father Christmas will also be visiting the seventh annual festival on Saturday, December 16 for a special family fun event from 11am to 3pm.

Among the fun activities are games of skittles, a beanbag challenge, a chance to decorate ginger breadmen and Christmas oranges and cards and make an angel and tree decorations.

There will be also be a zip wire challenge where children’s favourite toys or teddies will be transported to the top of the inside roof, where Father Christmas will then give the brave bear or toy a present to take back.

It costs £2 to enter the special Saturday of fun event and some activities cost 50p to take part.

The festival opens 10am on Friday and runs until Sunday, December 17.

It is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 3pm and on Sundays is open noon to 3pm. It costs £2 for adults to enter, children free.

All money raised will go the preservation and conservation of the Minster.

• A Christmas tree festival will also be held at Martham Methodist Church from Friday to Sunday.

There will be more than 1,000 Christmas trees on display by Glenda Tooke.

It is open 10.30am to 4pm on all three days. There is also a carol service on the Sunday at 4pm.

Refreshments will be available and there will be stalls. Proceeds will go to the church and the Norfolk Broads Circuit. People are advised to park at Martham Village Hall.
