The Royal Air Force celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, and this week a group of former service people gathered to mark the milestone.

The Great Yarmouth branch of the Royal Air Force Association held a buffet lunch at the Burlington Hotel, Yarmouth on Tuesday, joined by several guests including Mayor, Cllr Kerry Robinson-Payne.

In her welcome to the members and guests, Mrs Robinson-Payne praised the work of the RAF through the generations, and this was followed by the loyal toast and Act of Remembrance by chairman Richard Fiddy.

The toast to the 100 years of the RAF was given by Air Cmdr Kevin Pellat, chairman of the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen Families Association (SSAFA) Norfolk; and a toast to the branch, region and national RAFA was given by Lt Cmdr Stuart Fidler, RN, vice president of SSAFA.

Radio Norfolk’s Wally Webb gave a talk about his life in the RAF, before taking up broadcasting.
