A rollerskater who was well known for showing off his skills at Great Yarmouth’s Winter Gardens and Wellington Pier has died at the age of 89.

Ron Caton, a father of two, used to rollerskate with his wife Mollie.

They met in the queue for rollerskating at the Gorleston Holiday camp in 1949 and they both went on to give up most of their spare time firstly skating in the Skaterscades shows along the seafront and then teaching and judging both locally and nationally.

Linda Bance, one of his two daughters said: “Born and bred in Yarmouth, he was a pillar of the community both with skating, his passion for photography and helping others.

“After a short illness he passed his final few weeks being cared for a wonderful team at the James Paget hospital. He will be sadly missed.”

Mr Caton retired as a manager at British Telecom. His other daughter is Alison.
