Pupils have had a sweet charity success by collecting more than 340 bags of sugar for the Christmas School Sugar Collection organised by Buckingham Emergency Food Appeal.
The sugar collected by the youngsters at North Denes Primary School in Great Yarmouth will go to shelters across East Anglia for the homeless and families in crisis at Christmas.
Sharon Johnson, care and support advisor at the school, said 341 bags were donated.
She said: “We are in negotiations with the headteacher for a whole school reward for such a wonderful effort.
“Competition was fierce between classes with the promise of 30 minutes free time but above this it was great to see the children thinking about others at Christmas time.
“Not only did we receive individual bags from children but there was a very generous donation from a local shop and a parent who organised one from friends.”
