GOLD AWARD: Angela Johnson (pictured front) completed her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award with the support of the Great Yarmouth Youth Work team.

The 25-year-old, from Yarmouth, was among 40 young people from across the county to be presented with their awards – the highest accolade in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme – by Lady Knollys, vice-lord lieutenant for Norfolk at the Abbey Conference Centre in Norwich on Friday.

In order to receive the gold award, young people must successfully complete a range of different disciplines, taking part in an expedition, volunteering and developing skills.

Hosts for the evening were Rachael Ward and Catherine Kerry, who are both Gold Award holders. The chairman of Norfolk County Council, Shelagh Hutson, also attended and talked about the benefits of the scheme.
