Experts from the world’s first Brexit research centre will visit Great Yarmouth Town Hall to get the views of local residents, businesses and politicians on Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union.

As part of a tour of the UK constituencies said to have voted most strongly to leave the European Union, academics from Birmingham City University’s Centre for Brexit studies will be in Great Yarmouth on Thursday, March 1 to meet with people living and working in the area.

They will also hold a free event at the Great Yarmouth Town Hall from 6pm to 8pm, to update people on what’s happening in Westminster and Brussels, provide practical advice for businesses seeking to trade in a post-Brexit environment, and take questions from audience members.

The tour follows a number of events that have taken place since the Centre for Brexit Studies was established in early 2017. The tour will help academics at the Centre for Brexit Studies to gather evidence for an academic research project on post-Brexit attitudes.

Professor Alex de Ruyter, who is leading the Great Yarmouth event, said: “It is just under a year until the deadline for Britain to leave the European Union so it is important that we understand how different communities feel about their futures outside of the EU and the approach the government is taking to Brexit.

“Negotiations are likely to be ongoing for some time between Britain and EU officials but what most people really care about is what Brexit means for their jobs, businesses and everyday lives.

“We’ll be in Great Yarmouth to speak to as many people as possible and will also be hosting a free event for people to come and air their views on Brexit or receive an update on where we are in the process.”
