On Sunday, Lisa Borrett, 36, battled through severe pain to complete two laps of the 400m track at the Wellesley Recreation Ground in Great Yarmouth in two hours and 33 minutes.

Miss Borrett, from Lowestoft, took on the challenge in aid of Great Yarmouth disability charity, Centre 81, and her own community interest company, Life Take 2.

The fundraiser was timed to mark the anniversary of the death of her dad, Brian, who passed away last June.

Miss Borrett has been in a wheelchair since she was nine, but around 10 years ago, with the help of her dad, she began reducing her medication and training regularly with personal trainer Paul Brice, of BWell Gym in Great Yarmouth.

But despite the countless hours Miss Borrett put in at the gym in preparation for the challenge, she could never have predicted just how hard it would be.

She said: “Halfway around my body said give up and it was trying to chuck me out of my wheelchair, but I started this challenge in memory of my father and I wanted to complete it. My hands, arms and torso are so sore now though.”

Miss Borrett was spurred on by one of her dad’s old sailor friends, whom she had not seen for 20 years, as well as numerous friends and family members and Mr Brice, who was by her side the whole way. He said: “I am really proud of what Lisa has achieved. I was uncertain if she would manage to get around the full two laps, but Lisa is such a determined lady that even if someone had built a brick wall in front of her she would have hit the wall and driven through it.

“Lisa has been raising money to help other people in a similar situation to her to access supervised physical activity sessions. She feels she needs to push her body to the limit to show others what can be achieved with sure willpower and proper training.”
