A GREAT Yarmouth mental health charity will visit the House of Commons on Monday to receive national recognition at a Europe-wide award scheme for green businesses.
Great Yarmouth and Waveney Mind’s Work 2 Grow programme has been nominated for a Green Apple Award, a scheme which aims to promote and reward environmental best practice.
The Work 2 Grow programme, which offers accredited training in woodworking and joinery to people in the Yarmouth area affected by mental ill health, has received the recognition because of its use of recycled materials such as wood diverted from landfill.
The course also actively promotes the use of sustainable materials where possible and raises awareness with its learners about the impact of waste on the environment.
On Monday, it will also be revealed which organisations will reach the next stage to represent the UK in the European Business Awards for the Environment, taking place in Brussels.
Sylvia Moore, chief executive of Great Yarmouth and Waveney Mind, said: “We’re delighted to pick up the Green Apple Award and would be thrilled to take a Yarmouth charity through to the European stages.”
