It is one of many avenues being explored by locals who have come up with a raft of reasons to object to Brett Aggregates proposal to extract 1.87m tonnes of sand and gravel from a 195 acre site.
Parish council chairman Keith Nunn said concerns ranged from dust and light pollution to loss of amenity land and congestion on the already busy A143 where an extra 120 lorry movements per day are planned.
He said the council was interested in claiming the woods as a village green as long as certain criteria were met, and that there were big concerns about the effects of dust on at least four households with asthmatics and people with bronchial difficulties.
The new proposal while reducing the size of the quarry had taken it closer to homes.
