A gym instructor was banned from driving for 56 days yesterday after he admitted speeding along the A12 by Gorleston at 113mph.

Jamie Lillington, 25, told Yarmouth Magistrates' Court he was driving at such a speed on the afternoon of May 19 because he was trying to escape a car that was following him.

At the time, he was driving along a 50mph speed limit stretch of the A12.

Lillington, of Second Avenue, Caister, who works in Lowestoft, said a silver car had started to trail his Renault Clio after he pulled out in front out of it.

He said: “I was scared. I panicked. I did put my foot down. I was worried.”

Lillington, who had a clean driving licence, pleaded with magistrates not to ban him as he would lose his job because he could not get to work for a 6.30am start in Lowestoft from Caister.

The bench said it had no alternative but to ban him as he was driving at highly excessive speeds on a main road.

Lillington was also made to pay a £160 fine and £75 in costs.
