A hairy pub regular had his head shorn to raise more than 1,000 for charity.

Drinkers at the Coachmakers pub in Great Yarmouth sponsored Jim West, 64, to have his beard, hair and eyebrows snipped off.

He was coerced into the fundraising when pals told him he could raise cash for the Blind Society and Yarmouth charity the Ben and Lucy Fund.

The razors were brought out at the Market Place pub on Boxing Day, and 873 was raised by regulars.

The total was rounded up to 1,000 by the pub, and a further 149 was raised in a jar collection for the Blind Society.

And now Jim is getting used to his new look.

“It was a laugh getting it done but it’s a bit cold at night now,” he said.

A crowd of more than 80 people gathered to watch the charity head shave and the pub’s owners have thanked everyone for their generosity.

Donna Curtis, the landlady, runs the Coachmakers with her partner Ian Handley.

Donna said: “We’re definitely pleased to have raised so much for charity and the charities are chuffed.”

Regulars are now plotting how to go one better and raise more money this year.
