AN exhibition is being held for residents to have their say about the future of St George's Theatre in Great Yarmouth and the surrounding King Street developments.

The event in Market Gates will enable people to view a 3D fly-through DVD of St George's to help create ideas of what the art venue could provide.

A manned stand will be in the shopping centre tomorrow (Saturday) from 10am to 4pm.

For anyone who misses it there, it will in the Market Place on Wednesday 18, 10am to 3pm.

The third venue for the exhibition and the final opportunity to have your say is an evening event at Christchurch, on King Street from 5pm to 8pm, on March 26.

A Government grant of 3m was obtained earlier this year to aid the rebirth of the 18th century building as an arts venue with the surrounding area also used for exhibitions and entertainment.

The display will help to illustrate how the external area will be created with proposals including:

Creating a public square next to the chapel by pedestrianising part of King Street

To cater for this Deneside north of Yarmouth Way will be linked with Deneside south of Yarmouth Way for southbound traffic

Creating a public open space to the front of Christchurch by closing a short stretch of carriageway between Deneside and King Street

Making King Street one-way northwards from its junction with Nottingham Way through to and including St Georges Plain. This will allow the footways to be widened from York Road through to St George's Plain

Introducing mini-roundabouts at the junction of King Street with Nottingham Way / St Peter's Road to improve traffic flows and

Making Deneside one-way southwards from St George's Plain through to St Peters Road.

Cycle links will also be a feature of the project.

“We are keen to know what you want St George's chapel and the area surrounding to provide for you or your group,” said Culture, Leisure and Sport Service Manager, Marie Hartley.

“We are aiming for a vibrant, all-year-round programme that will have appeal to the widest possible audience.

“Put on your thinking caps and come up with some original ideas. Great Yarmouth already has a host of activities for people but St George's provides an opportunity to pull out all the stops.
